Why I Started VCEssence

The greatest technology investors’ advice for entrepreneurs

“…there are so many basic questions that founders and entrepreneurs need to have answered and there’s no real place to look for those – I mean you can find scattered blog posts here and there but what if we studied each of these questions, looked at everybody’s differentanswers…”   Jason Calacanis, Founder LAUNCH[1]

No real place until now.

What do successful VC’s Marc Andreessen, Reid Hoffman, Peter Thiel and Fred Wilson have in common?   Their insights are on vcessence.com.

“I think trusted curation is the future.”   Mark Cuban, Entrepreneur   [2]

“[] the way you build a brand and reputation these days is by serving the entrepreneurial community.”  Naval Ravikant, CEO AngelList[3]

“[] everyone is looking for [] the magic bullet which is technology [] that all pulls it together.  Can’t be done.  So for us it’s [] [what] we call ‘TACH’, technology assisted, human curated.” Kevin O’Connor, CEO FindTheBest[4]

VCEssence helps entrepreneurs make more lucrative decisions by learning the wisdom of today’s most successful, savvy and influential technology investors.

“We aggregate, curate and edit the killer content that helps entrepreneurs succeed.”

I have always been fascinated by what makes an entrepreneurial business successful.  In an increasingly competitive world busy entrepreneurs need every cost-effective competitive advantage to help them succeed.    Knowing what today’s most successful technology investors think regarding critically important topics could possibly be the most important tool to help their companies succeed.

Online content benefiting entrepreneurs like VC blogs, web TV and video conferences is proliferating.  Yet relevant, pertinent and useful information is fragmented, not well-curated and overwhelming in quantity and form and becoming more so.  The last thing entrepreneurs need is to spend unproductive time searching for what successful technology investors think regarding critically important strategic and tactical topics.

VCEssence is an easy-to-navigate on-line resource.  We aggregate, curate and edit valuable content authored by some of today’s most successful technology investors. The result is what those investors think regarding critical strategic and tactical topics.  Our “killer content” provides access to their insights, advice and wisdom including lessons from success and failure.  Our content enables entrepreneurs to make more informed decisions, thereby helping them succeed.

Our content addresses over 50 topics vital to entrepreneurs including bootstrapping, burn rate, founder vs. VC control, startup culture, dilution, entrepreneurial qualities, exiting, fundraising, how much to raise, investor selection, leadership, pivoting, red flags, success and failure, valuation and vision, among others.  For a complete list of topics, see the Topics & Investors page (under About VCEssence) as well as the pull down folders under the general subject headings across the top of the website.

Our content comes from many sources including Internet TV programs, venture capitalists’ and angel investors’ web sites and blogs, books, start-up and business web sites, online interviews, TV programs, newspapers and magazines, etc.

Besides being intelligent, savvy and accomplished, our carefully selected technology investors have several decades of hands-on experience.  Many were also entrepreneurs.  As Mark Suster VC might say, many have been ‘on both sides of the table’.  They all have well-respected track records of success.  They have also learned from their failures which has been an important key to their success.

Having studied their writings, opinions and advice, we consider them among today’s best and brightest VC’s and angel investors.  They include in no particular order:  Fred Wilson, Peter Thiel,  Mark Suster,  Marc Andreessen, Ben Horowitz, Reid Hoffman, Brad Feld, Jason Calacanis, Chris Dixon, Howard Morgan, Josh Kopelman, Naval Ravikant, Rob Hayes, Bill Gross, Dave McClure, Ron Conway, David Cohen, Jeff Clavier, Mike Maples Jr., Jeffrey Bussgang and Basil Peters, among others.   For a complete list of investors, see the Topics & Investors page (under About VCEssence) as well as the pull down folders under the alphabetized Investor sections across the top of the website.
